Yee Haw! Cowboy Poetry
Austrian ELT Workshops 2007
EATE Annual Conference, Fall 2007
Poetry Out West
1. Watch Wally McRae's rendition of Things of Intrinsic Worth
2. In pairs or small groups, read aloud some characteristic poetry and define cowboy poetry and its rules.
3. Define characteristics and rules of cowboy poetry (together)
4. Generate your own Austrian or Estonian cowboy poetry! In groups, each group formulates a good opening line for their cowboy poem. Pass the text to the next group so they can add the second line. Continue passing the papers until each poem has 4-6 lines.
5. No poetry experience is complete with out some poetry recitation! Share and enjoy your final products. Congratulations — you are a cowboy poet!
