Giving Student Evaluation and Feedback

May 4, 2007

We think ideal feedback should…

  • be concrete and specific
  • be constructive
  • give strategies for learning and improving
  • focus on moving forward
  • provide objective commentary and evidence for assertions
  • strike a balance between praise and criticism
  • focus on content as well as smaller items
  • not nit-pick
  • be personalized
  • be private when negative and public when positive
  • be timely
