What kind of level of detail or accuracy do you have? How do you feel about your product? Did you feel included in the process? How did your group work together? Why?
5. Mapping in detail
- Compare with a map of US states
a. Mark bordering countries and oceans
b. Try to draw and label the states you know
c. Label any cities your group has visited in green
d. Label any cities you have lived in with blue
e. Mark any other major cities you know
f. Label as many of the following as you can:
- the great lakes
- the Mississippi river
- the Appalachian, Rocky Mountains, and Sierra Nevada
- the Great Salt Lake
- the Gulf of Mexico
- Major regions: West, Midwest, South, Northeast
- Washington, D.C., New York, San Francisco, Los Angelos, Chicago
g. Draw a bear where you think Yellowstone National Park should be
h. Draw a sun in the hottest spot in the US (death valley)
i. Draw rain in the rainiest spot (Washington coast)
j. Draw snow on the snowiest spot (Mount Rainier in Washington)
k. Draw a mountain at the highest point (Mount McKinley, Alaska, the highest point in North America at 20,320 ft (6,194 m))
