Conflicts that Arise in Multicultural Settings

Bennet (1999) suggests that the following areas may cause conflicts in multicultural education:

  • Differing verbal communication patterns or styles
  • Differing nonverbal communication patterns or styles
  • Orientation modes (e.g. concepts of time, room arrangement, relaxation modes, etc.)
  • Social values
  • Intellectual modes and learning styles
